They would be surprised that I regularly buy stationary to replenish my hand written birthday cards, love letters, smut, congratulations messages, doodles and more to send people from all over the US, Canada, and also to Sweden once or twice for my friends baby girl who needs to remember her momma is still a Puerto Rican from the Bronx. “It's brick in Stockholm, mamita!”

They don't know I got ink as a gift to write my letters in turquoise like Bettie Page—I bought bic nibs to dip in ink wells and practice on thick cardstock before scratching flowers and stars in the margins.
They don't understand that getting a postcard every few months from a friend in Canada back and forth saved my life in 2020 when we couldn't see each other. And it's saving me now: I still look forward to every Christmas letter even if I'm Buddhist now.

I can tell you they don't care that I write in cursive to keep people from looking over my shoulder in every letter and journal page.
